Inside Cedars-Sinai’s Art Collection

Some hospitals boast an army of specialists in every field, but few can say they have an art curator on staff. Fewer still are home to a blue-chip art collection. Cedars-Sinai is a prominent exception. John T. Lange, who studied sculpture and had been a gallery assistant and graphic designer, was hired in 2003 to oversee thousands of priceless Pop Art, epic sculpture, and contemporary video installations that fill every patient room, waiting room, and exam room at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Beverly Grove. For more than 50 years, the institution has collected works by the likes of Picasso, Miró, and Warhol, and it has more than 4,000 pieces on display to provide both a pleasant distraction and a healing environment. Monte Vista Projects and Tiger Strikes Asteroid LA are teaming up to give you that winners fever during an evening filled with art and friends.  Sunday, December 10th our doors will open at 4pm and $20 raffle tickets will go on sale. Buy one, buy many, get there early, and get them while they’re hot. Winning ticket holders will get their pick of the donated artwork one by one until our walls go bare. Please join us at 1206 Maple Ave, 5th Floor #523, for the opportunity to collect work by many amazing artists. All proceeds will go toward funding the spaces and programming for 2018! There will be music and drinks a plenty, so please feel free to spread the word and invite other artists, friends, or family to this fun night of art, beer, and friends!

Both Monte Vista Projects and Tiger Strikes Asteroid are run by artists who set aside their studio time and finances in order to provide opportunities for other artists, adding to and fostering the Los Angeles art community.
